It is stressful when one or more of your major home appliances broke down. They could be really expensive to replace. Sometimes, getting them repaired is still pricey and you begin to think twice whether it is still worth getting them repaired for they might broke down again eventually.

Of course, we would want to get the most use out of our appliances since we spent a lot of money on them. It might be difficult to make the decision on whether we should replace the household appliance or have it repaired but there are some guidelines that we could follow to make the choice for us.

Replace the household appliance if the repair is almost the same price as a new one

Of course, if the price of repair is almost the same price as a new one or even greater than 50% of the cost of a new appliance it is logically better to just think about replacing it. The price of repair is not the only crucial factor about deciding to just replace it.

The availability and accessibility of replacement parts is also a determining consideration. When the damaged part is no longer available in the market because the manufacturer stopped making them, you don’t have any choice but to replace the broken appliance.

Still, there are other expenses and logistics that you need to consider when buying and installing a new appliance. Generally, if it is a little bit less than a new one (considering all the expenses that will be incurred including transportation costs or delivery charges) getting your broken appliance repaired might still be a better alternative.

Replace the household appliance if it has been with you for several years

If the broken household appliance has been with you for several years and is already more than halfway through its anticipated lifespan, the price of repair would probably be more than what you are willing to pay for.

If you are really attached to the appliance, you can take it to a good appliance repair in Perth. In case it can’t be repaired, it might be better to get a new one since you are not sure how many more years you could still use the appliance. You might just waste your time and money getting an appliance fixed which you might just replace anyway.

Replace the household appliance if newer models are more energy efficient

You might not have considered it but newer models of household appliances are more energy efficient than earlier models. You might have to splurge at the beginning but when you consider the expenses on electric bills at the long run, you are saving more with the energy efficient models.

However, if you are not using the household appliance regularly and it is not consuming that much power that it will affect your electricity bill, getting it repaired is still a cheaper recommendation.

If you don’t want to keep spending money on repairs or replacing your household appliances, it is better that you do preventive maintenance on your appliances to keep them running smoothly for a longer time.
